The (unfortunate) power of Anonymity

Anonymity isnt some sort of new concept, in fact, artists of all kinds have done so more a while, probably for a variety of reasons, some historical. However, in the information age, anonymity seems to come with a large variance of both signal and noise. What do I mean?

Even in 2025, there are just somethings you cant say man. There are also things that you can say, but probably shouldn’t in case your DEI LGBTQ company finds out, EVEN if they are jokes. There are somethings you can say, but maybe would rather your coworkers not see (see below).

But this depends on company culture. Not every employer and employee takes themselves so seriously as to be offended by a post. Is it then best to only work where you are 100% aligned with culture? …Can you be sure of it?

If we cant express ourselves though, are we really being our true selfs? Arguably, no, for better or for worse. Maybe the ‘worse’ that we are trying to protect the world from is actually the alpha the world needs. That is the magic of being anon. Pure creative freedom. Freedom to live, laugh, love… lol.

This is pretty sad though, basically telling people they cant be themselves without reprecussions. Its why I respected Elon’s (at first, before it became a datamine to him) vision when he bought X. It was about intellectual freedom.

Its even worse now with LLMs and Scam Saltman web scrapers everywhere, socially profiling ‘you’. Not the anime pfp version of you, no the actual you if you’re doxxed. Downloading your REAL life to a fucking machine. Its terrible man. Being anon gives you at least a slight bit of a buffer between this and being essentially put into the matrix.

Unforunately though it just feels risky to have any sort of public social media platforms. Like, any of them. The risk is so high, and the reward… well, what exactly is the reward? There really isnt one. Most celebrities are on record saying they wish they could keep the money and stay unknown.

It sucks, but this is sort of the way it is.

If you can live your life without an audience you should do it (s/o Bo Burnham); but, if you cant, you certainly should remain anonomous to your audience as long as you can afford. Its just better that way, unfortunately.
